Welcome to People First Foundation. Established in 2014,People First Foundation works for the empowerment, integration and rights of people with disabilities. With mainstreaming and inclusion as its constant theme, the Foundation has initiated a slew of innovative programmes that aim at total inclusion of people with disabilities. For us at People First Foundation, disability is an issue that concerns the rights of people. The site connects people with disabilities, their families and caregivers to helpful resources on topics such as how to apply for disability benefits, find a job, good health and care etc.. Our efforts and message are sensitizing the masses towards the difficulties of the physically challenged and we believe, anything is possible if People with Disabilities will believe in themselves. They can overcome with any challenge & something beautiful will emerge.
In a scenario of limited access to school education, PwDs (People with disability), realise that only the vocational training is not important but they also need to acquire skills to find work. However, most vocational training programmes are not designed well as most of the state-supported facilities are located in the cities, and rural disabled people know nothing about them.
The Campaign for Employment of Physically Challenged reinforces the reality that they aspire to work and their talents and abilities positively impact businesses both financially and organizationally.
Further the changing family value system, economic compulsions of the children, neglect and abuse have caused elders to fall through the net of family care. At present 95 million people in India are above the age of 60 and by the year 2025, nearly 80 million more will be added to this population bracket. With improved life expectancy rate in the country, it’s estimated that as many as 8 million people are currently above the age of 80 years. However today there are only 728 Old Age Homes in the country, accommodating Old Age men and women, but not a single one is exclusive for physically challenged old age people, having facilities of special care givers. At this age of their life, they need to be taken care of and made to feel special.
